Description

Malyovitsa Adventure Ascent via Via Ferrata and the Northeast Ridge

A Malyovitsa adventure ascent via via ferrata and the Northeast Ridge takes you into the Rila Mountains for a full day of movement, exposure and genuine mountain challenges. This demanding 10-hour group trek combines impressive scenery with technical sections, adrenaline and the satisfaction of working through each obstacle. If you already have hiking experience and want to take the next step, this route gives you the chance to test yourself under the guidance of a licensed mountain guide.

From Kalbura’s via ferrata to the ridges of Malyovitsa

The adventure presents a serious challenge on the via ferrata at Kalbura Peak. You will need strength and confidence as you use specialist equipment to tackle a 360-metre vertical rock face. The intensity of the climb gives way to the excitement of being high above the valley, with everyday life feeling a long way below.

On the way to the Malyovitsa Lakes, you will have time to appreciate Rila’s natural beauty. The imposing northeast face of Malyovitsa rises ahead of you, adding another memorable dimension to the day.

The route continues alongside the peak’s western face and through the Malyovitsa Corridor. Leaving the mountain’s shadow, you emerge onto the exposed Northeast Ridge. Here, the effort gives way to a sense of open space: looking towards the sky, you can appreciate what steady progress and confidence have helped you achieve. The day brings together demanding terrain, shared enjoyment and the refreshing feeling that follows a rewarding mountain adventure.

What the ascent includes

  • Participation in an intensive, full-day group trek to Malyovitsa Peak, lasting 10 hours.
  • A licensed mountain guide leading the one-day route.
  • A briefing and shared mountaineering equipment, including ropes and protection points.
  • Personal mountaineering equipment for participants without their own: a harness, helmet and via ferrata lanyards with an energy absorber.

Experience, age and group size

Some mountain hiking experience and a good level of fitness are required. The minimum age is 18. The ascent takes place in a group of at least 2 and no more than 6 people, alongside other participants you may not know. Participation is offered for one, two or three people, but the outing remains a shared group ascent rather than a private trip exclusively for your party.

What to bring for the mountain day

  • High-cut boots, preferably a technical mountain model.
  • A sun hat and two neck buffs.
  • Gloves, preferably leather work gloves.
  • A waterproof jacket, windbreaker or raincoat, plus a fleece or lightweight down jacket.
  • A backpack of around 20–30 litres with external equipment attachment points.
  • Sunglasses and trekking poles.
  • At least 1.5 litres of water and enough food for the whole day.

Every participant must have mountain insurance covering the day of the ascent. You can arrange it with an insurer of your choice, including at an insurance branch; do not assume it is part of the included equipment or services.

Schedule and advance contact with the guide

The trek runs on specified dates during the warmer months and is weather-dependent. The provider’s published 2026 schedule lists 12 June; 5, 12 and 25 July; 2 and 16 August; 20 September; 11 October; and 8 November. These are the dates given in the source, not confirmation that a place is available on your preferred date.

The stated minimum advance request period is 48 hours. Separately, the provider requires you to contact the instructor three days before your reserved date, using the supplied telephone number, for detailed information and directions. Plan your participation early enough to meet that requirement too.

Provider conditions and your Adventico voucher

The source states free cancellation up to 24 hours before the agreed start time and a validity date of 14 October 2027 for the voucher offered there. These conditions belong to the provider’s original offer and do not automatically become the terms of an Adventico voucher.

Choose an Adventico voucher for yourself or for someone who loves the mountains and is ready for a more demanding challenge. The voucher is a gift towards a future experience, not an automatically confirmed booking; the date and participation must be arranged in line with the schedule, weather and applicable conditions.
