Decoupage Workshop in Sofia: Eco-Inspired Creativity and Upcycling

Discover how an ordinary paper napkin and a little imagination can transform a familiar object at a decoupage workshop in Sofia. This eco-inspired session brings creative enjoyment together with the idea of reusing things you might otherwise set aside. Guided by Iliana Ovcharova, you will explore unexpected combinations and create a decorative piece with a character of its own.

Creativity inspired by nature’s unexpected partnerships

Iliana Ovcharova is a multitalented creative practitioner who is keen to share her skills with you. Her inspiration comes from nature, where symbiotic relationships bring together things that might initially seem unrelated. In the workshop, that idea becomes an invitation to experiment: to find harmony between different materials, shapes and images, and to combine elements you would not normally put together.

What decoupage is and how it transforms everyday objects

The name “decoupage” comes from the French decoupe, meaning a cut or cut-out. Using paper napkins and imagination, the technique gives a new purpose to objects that appear to have reached the end of their useful lives. Rather than being forgotten, they can become home decorations that bring colour, enjoyment and personal meaning to a room.

An old bottle might become an attractive accent lamp, a frying pan no longer used for cooking could add a splash of colour to the kitchen, and a baking tray could be transformed into a decorative serving tray for the table. These examples illustrate what the technique can achieve; they are not a fixed project that every participant is required to make.

Your ideas, combined with the skills Iliana shares, leave room for both a visible transformation of your chosen object and your own creative discoveries along the way. Afterwards, each glance at your finished piece can bring back the pleasure of the time you spent working with your hands and imagination.

Materials are provided, or bring an object of your own

All the decoupage materials needed for the workshop are provided, as appropriate to the activity. If you have something at home that you would like to give a new lease of life, you are welcome to bring it along and work on it. This is entirely optional: you do not have to bring an object from home. The choice of what to work with is yours.
