What to expect
A medium-difficulty winter ascent for adults with prior experience in winter mountains. You’ll traverse characteristic Rila ridges and enjoy wide panoramas across the range.
Route and timing (sample day plan)
- 08:00 – meet at the gondola car park in Borovets and ride up to Yastrebets.
- 09:20–09:40 – safety briefing, put on snowshoes and start towards Mt Aleko (about 2 hours).
- 11:45 – switch to harness and crampons; trekking poles change to ice axes. Technical traverse of Aleko and Nameless peaks towards Musala.
- 13:15–13:30 – on Musala Peak: lunch break, photos and time to take in the views.
- 14:15–14:20 – begin the descent via Ledeno Ezero shelter and Musala hut, then down the Musalenska path to Borovets (about 4 hours from the summit).
- Finish – quick debrief and departure back to Sofia.
