Tara River rafting is a four-day escape into one of Europe’s wildest and most scenic canyons. Expect crystal-blue water, waterfalls and rapids along the natural border between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Parts of the river are UNESCO-protected, and the canyon is the deepest on the continent—no wonder Tara is known as the “Tear of Europe.”

Why this trip stands out
You stay in simple, cozy bungalows right on the riverbank, tucked deep in the canyon. The camp is reached only by boat, so the adventure starts as you arrive. There’s no mobile coverage or internet—an easy, welcome unplug. Evenings mean campfire stories, stargazing, hearty local food and new friendships.

How it unfolds – day by day

• Day 1: Early departure from Sofia to the Tara Canyon. On arrival, luggage goes into the boats to cross the river to camp. Settle in and enjoy dinner in the heart of the canyon.
• Day 2: Late breakfast and time to adjust. Gear up, get a full safety briefing and take your first descent on the most exciting section of the river. Stops at waterfalls and cliffs for jumps, with a chance to swim in the cold, clear water. Midway break for coffee and a light bite in the wild. Dinner back at camp with music and a fire under the stars.
• Day 3: After a relaxed breakfast and a short walk in the area, suit up for the second descent—new route, new waterfalls, new jump spots and more adrenaline. Again, a mid-river coffee and snack stop. Dinner and stories back at camp.
• Day 4: Final breakfast by the river, check out and return to Sofia in the evening.

Accommodation & meals
Overnight in 4–6-bed bungalows on the riverbank. Optional room with a private bathroom is available for a supplement of 10.23 (20 BGN) per night. The package includes full board (drinks not included) with a vegetarian option on request. All fees are included.
