Snowshoe Hiking on Vitosha with a Licensed Mountain Guide

A snowshoe hike on Vitosha Mountain offers a different way to spend a winter day off in the mountains and share a new adventure with friends. Rather than your usual walk, this experience takes you out for a full day on snowy trails with a licensed mountain guide, snowshoes and time to discover Vitosha in winter.

The starting point may vary with the snow conditions. The described programme focuses on the area around Aleko Hut, with the route adapted to conditions in the mountains and the guide’s judgement.

Meeting point and the route towards Cherni Vrah

The group meets at 09:00 in the car park of Hotel Moreni, by the turning point for bus 66. Before setting off, your licensed mountain guide gives a briefing on the hike ahead.

You then walk with the group towards Ushite Shelter. After a short break, the route climbs towards Cherni Vrah via Selimitsa Peak. An afternoon food stop is planned before the descent to Aleko Hut.

This itinerary is not fixed in all circumstances. The guide may change it during the hike itself, depending on snow cover, the weather and conditions on the ground.

What the experience includes

  • Participation in a full-day snowshoe hike in the Vitosha area.
  • A licensed mountain guide leading the hike.
  • Snowshoe and walking-pole hire.
  • A briefing and personal attention for participants.

The experience lasts one day. It is a group hike, and you may be joined by people you have not met before. A minimum of five and a maximum of eight participants are required for the group.

Clothing, equipment, food and water

Bring a windproof and waterproof jacket and trousers; ski clothing is also suitable. You will also need a hat, two pairs of gloves and walking poles. If you do not have your own poles, the team will supply them, with pole hire included alongside the snowshoes.

Bring your own food and water in quantities you consider appropriate. The afternoon food stop is part of the itinerary, but food is not listed among the included services.

Age, insurance and contact before the hike

The minimum age is 18. Every participant must have mountain insurance valid for the day of the hike. It is not listed as included in the experience, and the organiser states that it can be arranged at any insurance branch.

The supplied information gives two different indicative insurance costs: approximately €2.56, also shown as BGN 5, in the route description, and approximately BGN 4 in the requirements list. These do not amount to a single confirmed current price; check the latest cost with the insurer.

You must contact the instructor three days before your reserved date, using the telephone number supplied for arranging the hike. This contact is compulsory and allows you to receive detailed directions and information about your specific outing.

Winter season and published dates

Hikes run during the winter season on dates announced in advance, subject to suitable snow cover. The experience is weather-dependent.

The supplied schedule lists 18 January 2025, 15 February 2025 and 8 March 2025. These dates are in the past and are not a current schedule for upcoming participation. A new date must be confirmed with the organiser before using your voucher.

Your Adventico voucher and arrangements

Choose an Adventico voucher for a winter adventure on Vitosha, either for yourself or as a gift for someone you would like to share a new experience with. Buying it does not immediately confirm a hike: the date must be arranged according to the schedule, conditions and required group size.

The provider lists an advance reservation period of 48 hours before the activity. Separately, you must contact the instructor three days before the date, so arrange your participation early enough to meet that requirement as well. The published free-cancellation condition applies up to 72 hours before the reserved time.

The source lists the voucher as valid until 14 October 2027. The validity date, cancellation rule and advance-arrangement periods describe the provider’s offer; they do not automatically become Adventico terms. Check the applicable conditions of your voucher and confirm the specific arrangements before taking part.
