Important information about the lakes and natural surroundings

On 3 July 2026, an unusual natural event occurred at Omaya. An opening approximately four metres across suddenly appeared in one of its two lakes. Water gradually drained through it, leaving that lake empty. This is a significant change to the landscape and something to bear in mind when planning your stay.

During the first few hours, the team's priority was to rescue the fish. More than 150 large fish, each over a metre long, were moved into the other lake, including carp, catfish, silver carp, grass carp and pike. According to Omaya, they continue to live in the retreat's waters.

The property's update states that the team is awaiting the results of geological investigations. These are intended to establish the cause and help identify the safest, most sustainable way to stabilise and permanently close the opening. Before taking action, the team wants enough information to be confident that the chosen solution will prevent it from reopening and safeguard guests. Restoration of the drained lake has not been reported as complete.
