Description

Struma River Rafting or Kayaking with Canyoning and a Zipline

Bring several water adventures together in one day with Struma River rafting or kayaking, canyoning and a zipline. Over approximately 6 hours, you move from river rapids to the waterfalls of Sheytan Dere, then experience a low flight above the river.

The main river descent is by raft or kayak, depending on the experience chosen. Canyoning and a zipline are included alongside it, giving the day a mix of movement, scenery and sensations both in and above the water.

Rafting: a shared adventure with an instructor in your boat

The day begins with getting equipped at the base, followed by a transfer to the start and a safety briefing. For rafting, participants are divided into groups of 5–8 per boat, with an experienced instructor leading each raft.

The route covers 12–13 km, and the rafting component, including its associated arrangements, takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. There is a stop at a jumping rock where those who wish can jump into the lively water. The stated capacity is up to 80 people per descent: this is the overall rafting operation's capacity, not the number of people in a single boat.

Kayaking: you take an active role in steering

Kayaking is the more challenging alternative and requires coordination and swimming ability. Preparation, stages and duration are the same as for rafting, but you travel in a separate kayak alone or with a friend and take responsibility for controlling it.

The instructor leads from another boat rather than sitting in yours. According to the organiser, the best period for kayaking is June to September.

Canyoning to the waterfalls of Sheytan Dere

After rafting or kayaking, the programme continues with around an hour of canyoning in Sheytan Dere. No previous experience is needed for this part. Wearing the supplied equipment, you head towards the waterfalls in the middle of the canyon.

Along the way, you cross the river several times, wade through waist-deep water and reach two waterfalls. Here, the adventure offers opportunities for jumping, swimming beneath a waterfall and other water activities.

Around 15 minutes of zipline activity above the Struma

For the zipline, you change into dry clothes and put on the necessary equipment. This part takes around 15 minutes and lets you glide low over the Struma River, adding a different sensation after paddling and exploring the canyon.

What the day includes

  • Rafting or kayaking on the Struma, combined with canyoning and a zipline.
  • Equipment for each participant: wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid, jacket and water boots.
  • Transport along the route and a safety briefing.
  • An instructor in every rafting boat, or an instructor leading from a separate boat for kayaking.

Who can take part and how groups are formed

The stated minimum age is 6, and children under 14 must participate with a parent. The experience is described as suitable for children, but coordination and the ability to swim remain compulsory for kayaking.

You participate in a group and may be joined by people you do not know. At least 4 participants are required on weekdays; at weekends, the service can run with 1 enrolled participant. This minimum does not change the stated arrangement of participants within rafting boats.

What to do and bring

  • After making a reservation, tell the team about any specific health condition. The organiser explains that this information is requested to keep the team informed, not to automatically refuse participation; this is not a medical guarantee of suitability.
  • Arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes early so that the departures can stay on schedule.
  • Bring spare clothing, socks, a synthetic T-shirt, water shorts, a towel and sunscreen.

Kresnenski Hancheta, parking, changing rooms and a secure place for your belongings are available on site.

Season, arrangements and provider conditions

The stated operating period is 27 March to 22 October, every day of the week, with a schedule between 10:00 and 15:00. The combined experience lasts approximately 6 hours, so confirm the actual meeting time and full-day arrangements with the team rather than treating the end of the listed time window as a guaranteed programme finish.

The stated minimum reservation lead time is 56 hours. The provider's published condition allows free cancellation up to 72 hours before the agreed time. This applies to the provider's service and does not automatically constitute a general Adventico voucher term.

Other places to explore nearby

If you would like to extend your outing, there are mineral springs in the area and a ropes course in Blagoevgrad. These are suggestions for exploring the surroundings, not included parts of the combined experience.

Give a full day of adventure

Choose an Adventico voucher and give a day that brings together paddling, a canyon and a glide above the river. The voucher is not an immediately confirmed reservation. The date and arrangements are agreed separately with the provider, subject to the group and participation requirements.
