Learn whitewater kayaking on the Struma River near Kresna in a focused 1- or 3-day course. Training is led by seasoned instructors with international river experience, and includes full equipment and river transfers.

How the training runs

3-day course: Start with a briefing on equipment, kayak types and control principles. You’ll progress through paddling techniques, then practice safe swimming in moving water. The course culminates in a guided, controlled descent on a suitable river section.

1-day course: An accelerated format. Your instructor assesses your level on site and adapts the plan to focus on the most useful skills so you get the most from the day.

What you’ll learn

• Control of a hard-shell kayak in whitewater;
• Core paddling techniques and boat control;
• Surfing waves and features;
• The kayak roll (Eskimo roll);
• Safe swimming techniques in moving water;
• How to choose and prepare the right gear.

Who it’s for and when to come

Suitable for complete beginners and paddlers looking to consolidate whitewater skills. For first-timers, July–September usually offer the most pleasant conditions thanks to warmer weather and suitable water levels.

Team and equipment

• Instructors with 15+ years’ practice on rivers across North & Central America, Africa, Asia and Europe;
• All gear provided: wetsuit, booties, paddle jacket, helmet, PFD and a stable, modern hard-shell kayak;
• Transfers from the rafting base along the river for the training runs.
