Established in 2019, the terraces were created to showcase the beauty and valuable qualities of Bulgarian lavender. Their story reflects Bulgaria’s rise to become the world’s leading producer of lavender oil, overtaking France. Your visit introduces you to the plant behind that achievement, right where it grows.

Five varieties, five distinctive scents

A guide accompanies you throughout the tour, explaining the plant’s characteristics: the appearance and size of its clumps, differences in the colour of the flower’s corolla, and its yield. You will also learn about the benefits of using lavender oil and the different ways it can be applied.

The heart of the experience is a guided exploration of the aromas of five high-quality Bulgarian lavender varieties. The team demonstrates a special technique to help you appreciate their pure, delicate scents more fully and recognise the individual character of each variety. This is a tasting for your sense of smell — an invitation to look closely, touch and discover lavender through its fragrance.

After the guided tour, you can take photographs among the lavender terraces with the sea in the background. Alongside the memory of the scents, you can take home pictures of the purple fields overlooking the coast.

When to visit the terraces

Tours run in June and July, Monday to Saturday inclusive, between 10:00 and 18:00. Flowering usually begins around 10 June. After 15 July, the lavender starts to fade and the fields gradually lose their intense colour. If photographs against a vivid purple backdrop are a priority, plan your visit before 15 July.

Duration, languages and participation requirements

• Location: the Nessebar area, Burgas region.
• Duration: 45 minutes.
• You will join a group with other visitors you may not know.
• A minimum of two participants is required for the tour to take place.
• Tours are offered in Bulgarian, English, German and Russian.
• The experience is suitable for children. Visitors under 18 are admitted free when accompanied by a parent.
• Pets are not permitted in the lavender fields.
• The experience is weather-dependent.
