Your first look beneath the surface

Your experience begins at the diving centre in Sozopol, where you complete the necessary paperwork, put on your equipment and receive an initial briefing. Once you are ready, you head to the lagoon, just 30 metres from the centre.

This beautiful setting is particularly well suited to people with no previous diving experience. Alongside the excitement of your first scuba descent, the lagoon offers the possibility of encountering different shoaling and bottom-dwelling fish, giving you a new perspective on the sea.

A gradual introduction with an instructor

You enter the lagoon gradually from the shore. In chest-deep water, you receive further instruction, check the equipment and practise breathing. The dive itself starts in shallow water, giving you time to get comfortable breathing and moving underwater with a self-contained scuba system.

The provider describes the main introductory descent as taking place in a shallow, waist-deep area. Depending on participants' abilities, the dive may progress to a depth of up to 6 metres; this is not a required or guaranteed depth for everyone. Each instructor works with no more than two participants.

The experience is suitable for complete beginners. It operates as a group activity that may include people you do not know, even when your chosen voucher is for one or two people.

What the 90-minute programme includes

• A scuba dive for one or two people, depending on the selected package.
• The necessary scuba equipment and a diving instructor.
• 30 minutes of instruction.
• 40 minutes underwater.
• A total of 20 minutes of preparation before and after the dive.
• Underwater video and photographs.

The full programme lasts approximately an hour and a half, covering preparation, instruction and the dive. The instructor provides your video and photos on the day of the experience. Ask at the venue how the files will be shared with you.

Age requirements and health restrictions

Children can take part from the age of 8. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present at the venue.

Under the provider's participation restrictions, you must not have ear or eardrum problems, a runny nose, sinusitis or high blood pressure. You must not consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances during the 24 hours before diving.

Season, timing and weather

Dives take place in Sozopol daily from 5 May to 30 September, subject to suitable weather. The activity is weather-dependent, and the exact start time is agreed with the instructor after booking, taking the expected conditions into account.

The listed minimum booking lead time is 12 hours. Separately, the provider requires you to call the instructor two to three days before your reserved date to check whether conditions are suitable and agree on a start time. Arrange your booking early enough to meet this requirement as well.

What to bring and how to prepare

• Bring swimwear, flip-flops and a towel.
• Pack a plastic bag for your wet swimwear after the dive.
• If you have long hair, tying it back is recommended.
