Meet in Belene and transfer to Nikopol

The group meets at 9:00 am on the beach in Belene, in front of Hotel Prestige. Leave your car there and travel with the other participants by minibus to Nikopol. Each participant pays separately for this transfer on the day.

On the riverbank in Nikopol, the kayaks and luggage are prepared. A briefing and a short introductory lesson for beginners follow before you take to the water. Departure is planned for around 11:30 am, with an experienced guide/instructor leading the group along the route.

St Stephen's rock-hewn church and the Danube islands

Early in the journey, you visit St Stephen's Church, carved into the rocks along the riverbank. This unusual church is one of the route's distinctive sights before the river leads you into a succession of islands.

You paddle past Srednyak, Gradina, Lakat, Palets, Golyam Katunar, Malak Katunar, Bezimenen, Persin and Magaretsa. Their different shapes, vegetation and sandy shores create an ever-changing view. It is a journey for the eyes, but also for that sense of open space that comes from seeing the river while travelling on the water itself.

Beach breaks, the tip of Persin and Magaretsa's dunes

There are numerous opportunities to stop, rest and spend time on the beach along the way. The actual stops are chosen according to the Danube's water level, making use of the most suitable shores and island beaches on the day.

You will reach the tip of Persin, the largest Bulgarian island in the Danube. It offers excellent opportunities for photographs and a memorable setting in which to capture the day. The sand dunes on Magaretsa Island are another distinctive landscape to look out for during the trip.

The route ends back at the beach in Belene, where the cars were left in the morning. Arrival is expected at around 5:30 pm.
