SDI Open Water Diver Scuba Diving Course in Sozopol

Take your first step towards becoming a certified diver with an SDI Open Water Diver scuba diving course in Sozopol. Combining classroom learning with practical training at sea, the course develops your knowledge, hands-on experience and confidence in safe diving. It is a starting point for diving independently around the world within the limits of your qualification.

A new dimension to your summer holiday

Below the surface are places and views you cannot discover from the shore. Diving opens a route to the underwater world along the Bulgarian coast, fascinating sunken ships and a different perspective on the sea. This course lets you add purposeful learning to your summer holiday and could be the beginning of further underwater adventures.

What you gain after successful completion

  • An internationally recognised SDI certificate.
  • A qualification to dive to a depth of 18 metres.
  • Practical experience in a real marine environment.
  • Skills and confidence for safe diving.

The instructors and dive centre are certified by TDI–SDI, a US-based organisation described by the provider as the world's fastest-growing diving agency. On successful completion, you receive an internationally recognised certificate validated directly by the organisation's headquarters in Florida, USA.

Theory, equipment and open-water training

The course takes between four and six days, depending on the schedule and conditions. You will learn in a group with other participants you may not know beforehand. The course includes:

  • Full training combining theory lessons and underwater practice.
  • The required textbook and multimedia equipment used to teach the theory.
  • All equipment needed for the course and open-water exercises.
  • Practical exercises from both shore and boat, with at least 80 minutes underwater at training depths between 6 and 18 metres.
  • Lessons led by qualified instructors.
  • Transport from the dive centre to the open-water training sites.
  • An international certificate following successful completion.

Age and medical requirements

The minimum age is 12. Before the course begins, you must complete a medical declaration and a liability release form.

A precautionary check-up with your GP is recommended before taking part. The provider does not permit participation by people with hearing-system disorders, including a ruptured or perforated eardrum, or with inflamed or blocked sinuses.

The provider also lists hypertension, epilepsy, claustrophobia and post-operative conditions among its contraindications and restrictions. These medical requirements must be taken into account when considering participation.

Location, season and advance preparation

  • The course takes place in Sozopol, in the Burgas region.
  • The listed season runs from 18 June to 10 September, with courses taking place daily during that period.
  • The activity is weather-dependent. Its duration of four to six days varies with the conditions and schedule.
  • The provider lists a minimum advance arrangement period of 72 hours.
  • There is a separate requirement to contact the dive centre seven days before your chosen date, using the contact telephone number supplied, to agree the starting time and necessary preparation. Plan ahead so that you can meet this requirement as well.

Your voucher and the original provider's terms

The provider states that cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the reserved start and lists its own voucher as valid until 14 October 2027. These conditions belong to the provider's original offer and are not automatically Adventico terms.
