Start with practice at Tabashka Cave

The adventure begins on a shorter, easier via ferrata at Tabashka Cave. This first route is a practical warm-up: you will get to know the equipment, practise the basic movements and learn how to maintain secure footing and balance on rock.

With an experienced mountain guide, you will work on ascent techniques and practise abseiling, an important rope-descent skill used in alpine activities. This gradual introduction gives you time to become comfortable with the equipment and the unfamiliar feeling of moving at height.

What is a via ferrata?

The name via ferrata has Latin roots and means “iron path”. It brings you close to the experience of rock climbing, but follows purpose-built routes fitted with metal steps, cables and rungs. These fixed aids support movement and safety, making the activity accessible even if you have little previous climbing experience.

A fixed route does not take away the real sensation of height or the contact with the rock. You will be aware of the open space around you, concentrate on your next move and engage directly with the terrain. That combination of accessibility and intensity is a large part of the appeal.

The routes above the Lednitsata chasm

Once you have gained confidence during the introductory exercises, you will continue to the via ferrata routes near Saeva Dupka. The lines run above the impressive Lednitsata chasm and vary both in difficulty and in how exposed they feel.

The area offers some of the country’s most interesting and demanding via ferrata terrain. Its variety provides opportunities for experienced participants as well as motivated beginners who are ready to make an effort and follow their guide’s instructions. This is an active day with a genuine physical challenge, rather than a simple walk among the rocks.

Equipment and support throughout the route

Safety is a central part of the organisation. You will wear a climbing harness and helmet and use a dedicated via ferrata safety system. The via ferrata set includes an energy-absorbing lanyard designed to protect you if you slip or lose your balance. Your guide will give clear instructions and provide ongoing support throughout the adventure.

Duration, participants and requirements

• Location: the Lovech region, at Tabashka Cave and the routes near Saeva Dupka.
• Activity duration: 5–6 hours as part of a one-day adventure.
• The voucher can cover one or two participants, depending on the package chosen.
• You will join a group that also includes other participants you may not know.
• Minimum age: 18.
• Participant weight range: 45–115 kg.
• A good level of physical fitness is required.
• The activity is weather-dependent.

What to bring

Prepare your clothing, equipment and supplies for a full day outdoors. Bring:

• A backpack of up to 30 litres.
• Long trousers.
• Gym or cycling gloves.
• A windproof jacket.
• A down jacket or thick fleece.
• Sunglasses.
• Enough food and water for a full-day hike.

Every participant must arrange mountain insurance in advance that covers the day of the activity. This is your personal responsibility, and the insurance can be arranged at any insurance branch.

Schedule and advance arrangements

The published 2026 programme lists 6 May, 30 May, 6 June, 13 June, 27 June, 11 July, 26 July, 12 September, 26 September and 17 October. These are the dates in the announced programme, not confirmation of a place or of a future departure.

The stated booking lead time is at least 72 hours before the start. You must contact the instructor three days before your reserved date, using the telephone number provided for the activity, to receive detailed directions and participation information.

The organiser’s stated cancellation policy allows free cancellation up to 48 hours before the reserved start time. This describes the activity provider’s policy and should not automatically be treated as a general condition applying to all Adventico vouchers.
