Culinary art therapy in Sofia with a gingerbread house
This Sofia experience brings together cooking, psychology, and creativity in a meaningful encounter with yourself. Instead of simply making dessert, you enter a space where desires, illusions, and hopes are explored through the idea of a “sweet home”.
What will you experience?
The session is built around the gingerbread house as a childhood image, viewed through the perspective of an adult. You return to the fairy-tale frame of Hansel and Gretel to look at how childhood fantasies, expectations of love, and the wish for someone else to “save” us can continue into later life. Sometimes the sweet paradise we imagine becomes a trap; sometimes that disappointment opens the way to deeper understanding.
How does the workshop work?
During the session, you create your own gingerbread house as a symbolic act of self-discovery. As you work with ideas connected to James Hollis’ The Paradise Project: In Search of the Magic Other, you look at love, projections, roles, and disappointment from a new angle. The experience does not point toward escape from reality, but toward building an inner home that feels more authentic, conscious, and grounded.
What will you talk about?
The meeting explores love as a defence mechanism, the search for the ideal “magic other”, the pain of lost illusions, and the possibility of choosing authenticity. At the same time, cooking is used as a way to ground yourself, return more easily to the present moment, and reconnect with your body and thoughts.
What do you take away?
You leave with a handmade gingerbread house and with a deeper sense of connection to yourself. The experience also includes a delicious lunch prepared with care by the hosts, so the gathering is not only meaningful but genuinely enjoyable.
About the facilitator
Verzhiniya Petkova is a psychologist and Jungian psychotherapist under supervision. She has more than 15 years of personal and professional experience in psychology and works with close attention to symbols, personal history, and each participant’s inner world.
