Guided Kayaking on the Struma River

Meet the rapids up close with guided kayaking on the Struma River. This water adventure is for those seeking a different kind of thrill, with active paddling, hands-on control of the kayak and an experienced instructor leading the way.

Kayaking is one of the most challenging water activities organised on the Struma. It is suitable if you are in good physical shape, can swim and have the coordination needed to paddle effectively.

From Kresnenski Hancheta to the start of the rapids

The adventure begins at the centre at Kresnenski Hancheta, where you receive your equipment. A transfer takes you to the start, where you are briefed on safety and paddling technique.

An experienced instructor remains nearby throughout the descent to offer advice and guide you in the right direction. To help keep the adventure safe, control your kayak by following the guide and complying with their instructions throughout.

A 12–13 km route with an optional jumping stop

The overall experience lasts approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes along a 12–13 km route. A stop at a jumping rock is included along the way. If you want to try it, you can jump into the lively water after receiving the guide's instructions. Jumping is optional, not compulsory for every participant.

Two-person kayaks and the possibility of paddling solo

The kayaks used are two-seaters. If you would prefer to paddle a kayak on your own, discuss this with the instructor on site. Solo use is possible only if arrangements for the other enrolled participants allow it, and it is not guaranteed in advance.

What is included

  • A kayak and paddle.
  • A helmet, buoyancy aid, wetsuit, water boots and a dry jacket.
  • Transport from the base to the start and from the finish back to the base.
  • A briefing and a guide along the route.

Participation requirements and group size

The minimum age is 12. Participants under 14 may take part only with a parent. Good physical fitness, swimming ability and coordination when paddling are required.

The descent takes place in a group with other participants whom you may not know. A minimum of 4 enrolled participants is required on weekdays and at least 2 at weekends.

Preparing for the descent

  • After making a reservation, tell the team about any specific health condition. The organiser states that the purpose is to keep the team informed, not to automatically prevent participation; this does not amount to a medical assessment or a guarantee of suitability.
  • Arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before the agreed time to avoid delaying the schedule.
  • Bring spare clothing, including socks, a synthetic T-shirt and water shorts, as well as a towel and sunscreen.

Kresnenski Hancheta, parking, changing rooms and a secure place to store your belongings are available on site.

When it runs and the provider's conditions

Descents are organised daily from March to November, with start times of 10:00 and 14:00, provided the minimum participant requirements are met. The stated minimum reservation lead time is 55 hours.

The provider's published policy allows free cancellation up to 72 hours before the agreed time. This is a condition of the provider's service and does not automatically become a general Adventico voucher term.
