Via Ferrata and Canyons from Enina to Veliko Tarnovo – 2 Days
Description
Via Ferrata and Canyons from Enina to Veliko Tarnovo
Discover via ferrata and canyons from Enina to Veliko Tarnovo on a two-day adventure through rocky terrain, waterfalls and cool natural pools. Starting near Kazanlak, the itinerary combines via ferrata climbs, canyon walks and waterfall trails across the central region. Expect exposed sections, elevated views and opportunities to enjoy the water and surrounding landscape between routes.
The first day has a gentler pace, giving you time to leave everyday routines behind and settle into the adventure. Day two brings a little more activity and a more exposed final climb, although the overall programme is not described as particularly difficult. Throughout both days, you are accompanied by an experienced mountain guide skilled in climbing and negotiating via ferrata routes.
Day 1: Enina Canyon, via ferrata and the Maglizh waterfalls
The starting point is Enina village, near Kazanlak in the Stara Zagora region. The first day balances climbing with relaxed breaks to rest, take photographs and enjoy the canyons.
- 9:30 am — meet the group in the centre of Enina for a safety briefing and equipment distribution.
- 9:45 am — set off towards Enina Canyon and the nearby via ferrata route.
- Around 11:30–11:45 am — reach the highest point of the tour, with time to rest, take photographs and have a light snack.
You then descend into the canyon along steep paths. This section requires particular care and is completed under the guide’s supervision. If the weather is warm enough and conditions allow, you can spend time beside the cool natural pools and take a refreshing dip.
A late lunch follows, with the choice guided by the group’s preferences. At 2:30 pm, the itinerary continues towards the next canyon and the Maglizh waterfalls, including Golyam Skok waterfall. Bring swimwear if you are joining during the summer months.
The next stop is Himik mountain hut in the Republic Pass area. The evening is set aside for dinner, rest and an overnight stay. Accommodation is paid for separately on site, and meals are also excluded from the experience.
Day 2: Hotnitsa Waterfall, Emen Canyon and Sini Vir via ferrata
The second day is slightly more active, though the programme as a whole is not considered very difficult. It takes in Hotnitsa Waterfall and its eco-trail, Emen Canyon and the Sini Vir via ferrata near Veliko Tarnovo.
- 6:00 am — wake up, have breakfast and get ready for the day.
- 7:30 am — leave for Hotnitsa village, the waterfall and the eco-trail.
- 10:30 am — pause for a second breakfast before continuing towards Emen Canyon.
Emen Canyon offers a beautiful setting for photographs and a short rest among the rock formations. In early summer, it also provides conditions for gentle canyoning.
A quick lunch is planned for 2:30 pm, followed by the final activity: a via ferrata route on the outskirts of Veliko Tarnovo. This route is more exposed than the earlier sections, and your guide provides additional belay protection as you make your way along it.
